Recurrent Pterygium Before      Recurrent Pterygium After

For recurrent pterygium, wait at least 6 months before re-operation. Use the surgical technique described for primary pterygium with the modification that the pterygium body removal should start at the limbal region. The pterygium head should be carefully detached from the cornea as it will be more adherent to the underlying tissue. Excise the subconjunctival fibrous tissue meticulously while avoiding further loss of the host epithelial tissue in the region without damaging the Tenon. The application of MMC should also be exactly the same location with an incubation time of 4 minutes.
